Read the full article on four months of experience in writing here
Introduction
- I start writing for two different purposes. One is to improve my ability to communicate. The other is to built my personal portfolio. Throughout four months of writing, the experience has been extremely valuable to me. The challenges I faced, the lessons I've learned, these are something I've truly grateful for it.
What I did?
- 20 long form contents on my personal website: Quiet Horizon
- 34 short form contents on Midgard
Challenges I've faced
- With long form contents of approximately 10 minutes of reading time, the biggest challenge for me is achieving the 10 minute read time mark. While writing about a topic, I occasionally ran out of things to say and ended up having to do more research on the topic
- Short form contents however, felt the opposite. The challenge is about finding topics to write about. This started off easy but drains me as I progress.
- The biggest challenges is managing both platforms at the same time. This overwhelmed me.
What I learned
- Long form contents is all about expanding ideas, both broader and deeper through detailed explanations and concrete examples. Through long form contents, I was able to explain concepts more clearly rather than relying on knowledge instinctively.
- Short form contents is about distilling ideas to its core essence. By forcing myself to write everyday, I naturally learn new things and can understand ideas better.
My Next Steps
- While short form contents benefit me, I feel that the quality of my content is dropping. As a result, my focus will shifted to my personal website (My Quiet Horizon for now)
- My interest also expanded. From just learning about data, I want to learn more about computer sciences. So in future, my category will change from Data Studies to Computer Engineering Studies.
