Introduction
AI can be your greatest advantage or your biggest downfall. The difference is how you use it
- With AI revolving around us today, it is easier to have AI think and do tasks for you. It is common to ask AI questions like, "Help me think of an exact solution for this matter?". According to Jim Kwik, while this is a possible, there are severe drawbacks to doing this. He explains why there are consequences to these sort of actions and how to use AI more productively.
Why shouldn't you let AI think for you
- An experiment was conducted. A group of people split into three groups are ask to write an essay. The first group uses AI to help them write it. The second group are allow to use search engines. The third group only uses their brain. As they write the essay, the EG scans are conducted on their brain.
- The AI usage group brains shows signs of lower engagement, weak connectivity of brain agents and poor memory when compared to the other two groups. In real life, this can lead to severe problems. However, when these group of people stop using AI, they brains return to functioning normally.
How you should use AI
- Use AI as a tool not a replacement for thinking. Human intelligence is just as important as Artificial Intelligence. Human Intelligence learns things through understanding and applying concepts and ideas. AI makes it easy to skip that step. This led to a problem called illusion of learning where you learn things but never mastered it.
- An analogy for this is gym exercise. You wouldn't ask a trainer to do all the cardio and weight lifting for you. You would ask a trainer to guide and monitor you instead. Using AI is the same way. It shouldn't do all the hard tasks for you. It should guided you instead.
AI doesn't remove expertise, it raises the bar
- One method of using AI effectively is to use the ACT method.
- Ask: Ask for structure. Let AI help you sees the bigger picture of the problem. Make connections and look for more specifics yourself.
- Challenge: Don't treat AI as a final answer. Treat it as a starting point. Challenge AI with questions and analysis will help you strengthening your judgement.
- Think: Think before firing of another prompt. Don't use AI like slot machine. Summarize what AI says, explaining it. This reinforces your memory and your own critical thinking skills. Turn Passive Learning to Active Learning
