Day 2 of Doing It Anyway - Figma to AI
Happy Easter Weekend!
I asked AI to craft a branding + Figma design system that is ready to use in ONE line. still can't believe it.
I used to mess around with the design system for a month, now it crafts for me in 1 min.
Here’s what I did:
Node preparation
Storybook connect to the SDS code in code editor
Connected Figma MCP to its plugin with AI using access and token (I'm using Cursor for AI, you can use others like Claude)
Defined simple brand guides (Primitives · Semantic · Spacing · Components) My hero prompt is:
"Draft me Design Branding using the primitive colours
#4AA7B0
#4AA7AE
#D6D1AA"
- Let AI generate the structure → tokens → components → layouts
Next steps if your prototype's idea is ready
- Watched it build and sync into Figma almost instantly, and you can even create your code sync onto your file (with that prototype generation)
What hit me wasn’t just the speed…
It’s how this changes the builders' role. Also, it can audit when designs change has made, whether they match the company's design system or not.
We’re no longer just designing screens.
It can automatically start the first part of the job, which can't be denied, it's the hardest part.
And honestly?
This feels like the beginning of a new creative workflow.
Curious — are you using AI in your design/dev workflow yet, or still exploring?
